florent.jpgIn late 2009, Washington and Beijing announced an ambitious joint research projects in clean energy, presented as a sign of maturity of the bilateral relationship and alliance against climate change.

A year later, when Obama gets his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, records are not moving and conflicts multiply.

Meanwhile, the United States have complained to the World Trade Organization (WTO), accusing China to subsidize wind power equipment manufacturers and wind-machines. Beijing returns the compliment, and there wasn't lot of cooperation in negotiations on global warming.Because Beijing and Washington have beautiful promise to cooperate, their interests diverge on issues such as climate, technology or reviving the global economy.

« There is obvious hypocrisy on both sides » said Dereck Scissors, an economist at the Heritage Foundation in Washington.

The issues there are wide. The United States and China are the two largest economies in the world, the two largest emitters of greenhouse gases (GHG) and their trade totaled $ 250 billion (188 billion euros) year. Their ability to cooperate is likely to depend on restoration of the global economy and an effective fight against global warming.
