The period from September 2009 to May 2010 was clearly punctuated with huge natural disasters all around the world. Victims of these unprecedented phenomena, the populations only can repair the damages et try to survive. Account of catastrophic nine months.

Earth

The most bloodiest seism happened in Haiti on January 2010. Of magnitude 7,1, it triggered the disparition of 220 000 persons.

Latin America was not forgotten by this wave of earthquakes. On February 27th, the one in Chili killed about 520 habitants and created a tsunami to Kamtchatka (russian extrem-orient).

The month of April hit the jackpot. The 6th, Sumatra Island shook with a magnitude 7,8 and one week later, China with 7,1. The country counted finally 1 900 cadavers.

Water

Two important floods caused a lot of damages. In october 2nd , a deluge beat down on Messine (Sicily). Followed by a terrible mudslide, this tragedy caused the agony of 50 italians. The international press wrote a long time about the survivors and the way they live now.

The help from the entire world came to Brazil too because of the same phenomenon. Nevertheless, the social consequences were more serious : 256 dead people and 161 injured habitants.

Wind

In the night from February 26th to 27th , Occidental Europe almost bent under the wind effect !

Storm Xynthia touched Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium and Sweden. For one time it is our country that register the highest rating of disparition : 53 morts.

The tornado season in USA was this year particularly violent, with twisters of force 4 on a scale FO-F5. From April 22th to 25th, it killed ten persons and wounded about 20 others in the South United States (Mississippi).

Fire

Lastly, how talking about environment without thinking Eyjafjöll volcano ! Located in Iceland, this volcano has erupted on March 20th. The lava appeared April 14th and triggered an important ice melting. Nothing very exceptional until that because Iceland is very volcanic. The real issue resides in the ash clound that spit the volcano regularly and distracted the international airline. The scientists predict that the eruption can go on over a year !

All of these disasters had huge consequences all around the world. Dead people and damages can not be counted exactly... The multiplication of natural phenomena worries the public opinion and, even if the authorities try to react (for instance, Copenhagen sommet on december 2009), the climate is transforming and nothing and nobody can not change this evolution. It's too late now.

Each year looks like the previous concerning education : new reforms, demonstrations and strikes. 2010 has not been an exception. The first change went on september with the reform of the « llycee », especially for the first year (« La Seconde »). Once again, the gap between the government and the teachers was deep, and the fight...unremitting. On the one end, Luc Chatel, the French education minister, who promoted his project claiming that it was fairer and more efficient for pupils. On the other hand, the teachers, who denounced a two tier system. They demonstrated against a system which promotes the high-flying and crushes the weakests. Moreover, the new system cut thousands of public jobs linked to the national education. The paradox was that with more and more pupils and less hour classes, the teachers had to finish all the programme

To conclude, Mr Chatel's plan transformed the History and Geography in the scientific branch in a simple option, as a second way class.

In order to protest, pupils and teachers joined to be on strike and to demonstrate. In November and December, many secondary schools were blocked and no classes were provided. A few time later students joined the movement and gave it more strengh.

At the beginning of January, a survey revealed that 77% of parents supported the reform. Finally, the reform was definitly confirmed and the demonstrations stopped.

The other main problem in education in 2010 was the several cases of violence at school.

At the very beginning of January, a pupil was stabbed inside his secondary school by young people from outside. He died at the hospital. The drama moved the whole France, because it realised that insecurity was everywhere, even in unexpected places such as school. Every media dealed with the murder and politicians promised that they will fight against the bane of violence at school.

To conclude, this year 2009-2010 was full of problems and demonstrations, always to the disadvantage of pupils. Unfortunately, each year looks like the previous in education, so we can expect to another « colourful » year in 2011.

After a year, accentuated by different crisis and an important increase of unemployment in many contries of the world, 2010 appears as an restarting year...but, maybe not for everybody....

This year was disturbed by a numerous economic actuality.

At dawn of 2009, majorities of countries were in economic recession, with a lot of consequences for the planet, as we known: decrease of Financial exchanges, and of the world trade and a great increase of unemployment.

The Financial crisis of 2007 remains in the memories.

Indeed, the countries more avanced met a gross domestic product (GDP) in decrease of 4,25%, more strong fall since the WWII.

First of all, the question of the State intervention has rythmed this year.

In fact, during the G20 summit, (a meeting mixing the twenty economics puissances of the world) the States explained the importance of their reactivity and the spendings for saved the world Financial system and after to relance the economy. In the summer, the first signs of restart began.

So, the end of the year annunciated a year for economic restarting for 2010.

But, Greece which didn't respect controlling criteria and with an important trade deficit, put the european area in danger and the euro. A few days ago, the Financial europeans ministers met in Bruxelles, adopt a plan of 750 billions euro to save the countries contaminated by this bad pupil!

At the moment, the political world is overwhelmed.

As the leader of the Socialist Party, Martine Aubry who proposes individual pension while keeping the legal age: 60 years. Despite a relative division within her party, she is nevertheless encouraged by other political figures; until she proposed a debate with the current President: Nicolas Sarkozy.

Talking about the President, we have to confess the global crisis is driving politics distracted, they don't know where to start. It is therefore likely they want to draw the attention about other topics, like the burqa, which is always a current event. In fact, Nicolas Sarkozy is in favour a law for the ban of the integral veil. The National Assembly will vote it in July 2010.

Unfortunately, the global crisis is continuing despite polemics. Moreover, it leads to special consequences, especially on the political decisions. And the impotence of some, encourages others.

That's why, Dominique De Villepin, the opponent of the President (see the case Clearstream), has created the « ClubVillepin », a young political party. We can consider it, as a new step to the next presidential elections... It is presented like an alternative for 2012, but the UMP doesn't really like this idea.

So, we are waiting for the exit of the crisis...

However, the politicans seem disturbed, shy and sometimes lost. Is it the results of the crisis? Are there an order to organize future campaigns? Sneaky interests to be reelected?

To follow...
