Immigration, for some years, rising steadily for various reasons. This last one becomes a political but also economic stake. We have counted about 12000 deaths since 1988. They are detrimental to the society according some people. Immigration, mainly, illegal is going to become a major issue as asserts Jean HAYOT, a immigration official who works in collaboration with the UE's countries.

Hello Jean, we are going to speak about one of the 21st century's bane: immigration. But immigration in 2008, what is it?

Firstly, immigration is very difficult to define. In 2007, we have counted approximatively 400000 in France mainly familial migration (77%). Really, it is 80000 persons who enter in the country illegaly every year.

With the crisis, illegal immigration could not soar, what do you think about it?

It is necessary to be very careful with this kind of statement. The crisis touch every part of the society. It is very quickly passeed to a countru to the other one and that it gets from now on the labour market. We have difficulties in anticipating its impact beyond.

Let us assume that employment gets complicated, what are going to do the present immigrants in France, according to you, return at home?

Immigrants arrived recently. They ahve the strongest probably to lose their employment quickly. Besides, the crisis risks to touch specifically the immigrants employment. Indeed , last ones are overrepresented in sector liable to undergo strong cyclical fluctuation as construction or hotel-restoration. As well as temprary work and part-time job. From now on, they are the first ones to be dismissed when the situation is less good.

Immigration's policy have changed since a few years?

We have always seen the immigrants as nasty for the country. With the politic of quota and increase of expulsion in August 2008 about 26000 persons. It is 15 percent more than 2007 and 140 percent more than 2002.

Nevertheless, we could see a hope fot immigrants. Indeed, the quota's politics has been refuse, consider as discriminatory.

It remains to be seen whether immigration is a chance or o invasion. Immigration remains a commensurate and a burning issue.
