State helps Prime Minister for the new Education
Nearly eight years after the Constitution was amended to make education a fundamental right, the government today implemented an historic law to provide free and compulsory education to all children in age group 6-14 years .
Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, wants the government to be committed to ensuring that all children irrespective of gender and social category, have access to education.
Manmohan Singh wants the Indian government, in partnership with State Governments, to ensure that the financial contraints do not Hamper the implementation of the Right to Education Act.
He wants the government to be at the Centre, in states and union territories and authorities at district and village levels must work together as part of a common national endeavour to realise the Right to Education .
Parents and guardians too have a critical part to play having been assigned school management responsibilities under the Act. Prime minister said «the needs of every disadvantaged section of our society, particularly girls, Dalits, adivasis and minorities must be of particular focus as we implement this Act.»
