When the Mossbourne Academy reaches the top!

Mossbourne Academy... This name doesn 't mean something for you, or you or us ! Cambridge and Oxford are the most popular colleges in Great Britain. But before joining this high school, pupils have to do some exams. This academy, based in the Borough of Hackney – one of the poorest of London's boroughes – has become one of the most popular and best academy of the country... While it was one the worst there was a decade now !

Michael Wilshaw... Excuse me, Sir Michael Wilshaw is the inspirational executive principal of Mossbourne Academy and the precursor of the school's rise up. He exlpains the extraordinary reversal by these words : “There is this view that children from poor areas cannot achieve. The thing that I am most proud of, is that we’ve shown they can. I’m also proud that we’ve done it in Hackney, which was one of the lowest achieving areas in the country. The line has been clear from the start. No excuses. You can do it.”

Now, the results at A-Level (the British equivalent for « Bac ») are 36% higher-ups than the national results. The first reason of this change is the total reconstruction of the College since 13 years. Indeed the school-budget upgrades to 40% since 1997.

The teachers too are one of the reasons of this modification. Mossbourne teachers work from 7a.m to 7p.m and sign an only contract. Moreover, the students of the school have much autonomy as well as a strict regulation.Mossbourne Community Academy found the key of success, and one of the worst British school became one of the best.

Michael Wilshaw with the Mossbourne Community Academy has proved that impossible is nothing.

It is an island of hope, not just to its 1,100 students, but to the nation.
