In England

 

Father Christmas wears a long red robe or a green one. He leaves presents stockings on Christmas Eve.But they are not opened until the following afternoon. Christmas meals must contain Turkey and pudding. Otherwise after Christmas, it's the Boxing Day. Boys collect money in the streets with their boxes. In Football, Premiership takes place this day. People are crazy about these matches. They like to see football players give the best of themselves.

 

In Australia

 

Christmas is very hot, often 30° degrees and is celebrated only between Parents and Children. They do picnics, sports like cricket, swimming. If you are near the sea you will be able tosee Santa Claus (father christmas) arrive on a surfboard.

 

In India

 

People decorate banana or mango trees. Christians Indians put light on the wall of their houses. They give presents to family members or give charity to the poor people.

 

In Ireland

 

Irish women bake a seed cake for each person in the house. They also make three puddings, one for each day of the Epiphany. Like in England, Boys go from door to door singing wiht musical instruments in order to make money. Football matches are very important too.

 

In Canada

 

In some provinces, Stinck tuck (a festival) is celebrated by the Eskimos who are dancing. In Labrador which is a district of Canada, people give turnips to children with a candle. In Quebec they display Creches in their homes as the Christmas deocrations.

 

In New Zeland

 

Christmas is combined with summer holidays so families are preparing for trips to the beach. Shops are decorated with father Christmas with snow like in Europe. European traditions are mixed with Maori culture.

 

In Scotland

 Scots who belong to the Church of Scotland don't celebrate Christmas because the Church of Scotland had never thought that Christmas was important for Christians. Nevertheless, The Scots who are members of a different Church celebrate Christmas like English.
