Gay's rights flouted another time in the USA
Recently, a Mississippi school disctrict violated gay's rights : a young student, Constance McMillen was banned from bringing her girlfriend to the annual prom, but a federal judge ruled that the district's actions violated the teen's Constitutional Rights. The judge forced the Itawamba County school to put the prom on April 2.
The American Civil Liberties Union sued the district to allow the young girl to bring her girlfriend if she wanted it, and to wear a tuxedo. The school decided to cancel the prom this week, because of McMillen's challenge to the rules had caused disruptions. The student wanted to communicate a message for gay community by wearing a tuxedo and escorting a same-sex date. But it seems every state of America is not ready for gay rights. It is a little bit disappointing when we see the gay marriage allowed in some states.
In her school, some students led her to miss the class for few days, because of hostility and a lack of tolerance from the others.
Now the lesbian girl is not sure if she'll go to the dance. It is sad when you're 18 years old to private yourself from things you want to do.
"I'm going to school tomorrow and will get a feel of how everybody feels about me. That will help me make my decision about whether I'm going to the private prom," McMillen said. "I want to go because all my junior and senior class will be there, but I don't want to be somewhere I'm not welcomed."
Her case has become a great cause it is good to see that young people are fighting for their rights.
Constance McMillen has appeared on several shows whose the very famous « The Ellen DeGeneres Show », the talkshow woman is patently lesbian too. DeGeneres presented her with a $30 000 college scholarship from Tonic, a digital media compagny. Even a facebook page was created for her cause, set up by the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union); the page has over 400 000 fans. We just hope a better future for the gay's rights.
