The bill of the ashes
The Eyjafjöll volcano has ended to spit its ashes and the air space has come back to normal*. Now it's time to pay the bill.
For two weeks, medias of the whole world have dealt with Iceland more than in the previous thirty years. The guilty is the Eyjafjöll volcano. It awoke two weeks ago, spating thousand kilos of ashes in the sky. The main problem was that these ashes, dispersed by the wind hudreds kilometers around, prevented plains from flying in the European air space so a lot of airports had to cancelled many flights. One the one hand, airline companies were really disturbed and lost so much money. On the other hand , travellers were boxed in countries they were supposed to be on holiday. Both sides hated the Eyjafjöll.
Ashes very heavy in the purce
The French State secretary of Tourism, Hervé Novelli, revealed the economic consequences of the vulcano anger. The airline companies lost 188 million euros, the tour operators 31 millions and the travel agencies 41 millions. The total of this economic crash is 260 million euros. Moreover, lot of travellers have known some problems with their bosses. In fact, the justification « absent because of volcano explosion » is not really admitted and some bosses are not really understanding.
In a world where the human being is sure to be able to control everything, this episode shows that as much intelligent and developped he could be, he would never compete with Nature. One of the most little and unhospitable country of Europe has given us this lesson,
* The Scotish and Irish air space is still disturbed.
