Violence in schools : a social trouble?

Publié le par Ecole de Journalisme et Communication de Blagnac

The agressions in school playgrounds are increasing in many countries. Even states like Japan, Poland or Belgium also are concerned by this phenomenon. In deed, the Education Ministries give regularly alarming rates of this kind of incidents. We observe that the United States of America are still set on the first grade. The Columbine massacre in 1999 made Americans open their eyes about this serious issue.

These behaviours often result from psychologic weakness like anxiety, depression or even inhibition, not to say drugs effects. Actually, we have to specify that every country has its own « rules ». For instance, the weapon carrying in USA ( as gun, knife, etc...).

The experts notice that the academic performance has a considerable influence on the personality of aggressive pupils. That's why the students have more and more antisocial reactions between them. Without forgetting the parental discipline plays a role on the subjectivity of the child, that will have an impact on his future decisions (physical agression, sexual abuse, robbery, ...). Then, television and the excess of video games can trigger violence.

According to surveys, children have tendancy to copy the others's behaviours and to repeat what they heard. So the professionals recommend parents to pay attention about that and, in a contrary case, to bring a follow-up to their child.
