American health future in the presidential election

In two weeks, American electors will have to choose the new president of the United States. That is, the one who, by this time of crisis, will be able to elaborate a more efficient health system for all Americans. Particularly, health insurance which is a sensitive subject in the electoral campaign. In fact, 45 millions people do not have medical coverage and many more are at risk to lose theirs.

«I offer a Conservative and Republican view on the reform of health care» John McCain, October 2007.

McCain keeps an idea of health care regulated by market laws. His main aim is to make as if the medical system becomes more affordable without the intervention of the government. So this starts with the free choice of an insurance, with no obligation to have one. Moreover, McCain wants to prevent industries from deducting the insurance costs from their taxes. However, he gets the tendancy to detach himself from the Republican doctrine. He believes in universal health coverage established thanks to tax credit and a better competition between insurance companies.

«I also want to make sure that those who have access to the medical care benefit from reduced costs» Barack Obama, February 2008.

Obviously, the Democrat senator wants to create a universal care system, especially for children. He wishes to forbid insurance companies to exclude or increase the drafts of people with serious diseases. Managers will have to provide insurance to their employees, except for small entreprises.  Obama thinks to finance this project by overruling tax reduction offered by George W. Bush to families who earn more than 250.000 dollars a year.

The originality in that campaign is that the Republican candidate is proposing, like the democrat one, a universal health coverage. The differences between these two are the amount of people who are concerned and the way of financing the project. The day after the election, we will get to know the future of the health system in the United States.
