The real water war occured 4000 years ago. For now the UN is putting pressure on the governments to integrate hydro-politics in their agenda.

«  I can promise that if there is not sufficient water in our region, if there is scarcity of water, if people remain thirsty for water, then we shall doubtless face war. »

Water war is threating the planet. It is becoming a big menace. Even if experts tend to think that this can be avoided. The UN published a report last week. It is calling the international commununity to take actions.

According to that report if the actual way of distributing water is not done appropriately the consequences would be alarming for the development and well being of people in several regions of the world.

In Africa and Asia, there is scarcity of water under the influence of the demographic growth and climatic change. This will create an economic and political crisis. Particularly, in cross borders zones. The situation is critical in sub-saharan Africa, where the ways of managing the distribution of water is degrading.

China is facing scarcity of water and water pollution. So they are showing great interest towards Tibet who is known to be a real « pool of water ». India is facing problems : two of there rivers : the Brahmapoutre and the Indus are deriving by Pekin. Wherever there is rarification of water it tends to increase old historic world conflicts.

Concerning the Middle East, an Israelian water commissioner painted a gloomy picture of possible conflicts over water between Israel, the Palestinians, Jordan and Syria. « At the moment, I project the scarcity of water within 5 years, » he says. He also admits that « if there is not sufficient water in our region, if there is scarcity of water, if people remain thirsty for water, then we shall doubtless face war. »

Observers say that by 2025, 48 countries will be severely short of water and half the people on earth will not have access to clean supplies.
